More about this test

Immunoglobulin E (IgE) and immunoglobulin G (IgG4) are both antibodies. Whilst both function as part of the body’s immune system, they do produce different symptoms. The different type of reactions do not necessarily occur to the same items, so testing for both IgE and IgG4 reactions provides greater clarity.

IgE is associated with allergic reactions. It is found in very small amounts in the blood and testing it measures the amount of allergen-specific IgE present. Elevated levels of allergen-specific IgE can suggest the presence of allergy however results must be interpreted with a full clinical history. Whereas IgG4 is associated with food intolerance and studies into certain conditions have shown the benefit of testing and eliminating items causing an IgG4 response.

These conditions include irritable bowel syndrome, migraines, depression, eczema, autoimmune disease, Crohn’s disease and obesity.

Immunoglobulin E (IgE) is a class of antibody, which functions as part of the body’s immune system. It is associated with allergic reactions. It is found in very small amounts in the blood and testing it measures the amount of allergen-specific IgE in the blood. Elevated levels of allergen-specific IgE can suggest the presence of allergy however results must be interpreted with a full clinical history.

IgG4 antibody testing measures the level of IgG4 to specific food items. IgG4 food antibodies can result in a delayed response to a food. Circulating antibodies can affect each person differently. For some elevated antibody levels may not result in any symptoms but for others they may lead to constipation, diarrhoea, changes in bowel movements, bloating, headaches and joint aches.
